la earthquake

The quake, which hit at 6:11 p.m., had a depth of 5.6. miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no reports of damage.

The epicenter (map) was located 6 miles southwest of Westlake Village, 7 miles south of Thousand Oaks and 7 miles west-northwest of Malibu.
"There were no aftershocks. We would have expected a few," said Dr. Egill Hauksson, a seismologist with Caltech.

Westlake Village resident 14-year-old Michelle Noyes was the first person to call the NBC4 assignment desk after the seismic disturbance. She said "it felt like wind was shaking the house back and forth. It felt like it lasted 7 seconds, maybe more." Michelle was sitting on a bed watching television when the shaker hit.

People living in West Los Angeles, Sherman Oaks, Marina del Rey, Camarillo, Carson and Long Beach called The Channel 4 News to report they felt the quake. Did you feel it? Post your comments below
