The Mega Millions lottery jackpot went another round without a winner, inflating the prize to an estimated $171 million.Drawings for the multiple-state lottery, including New York, are Tuesdays and Fridays. The Tuesday drawing had numbers of 1-27-28-35-40 and a Mega Ball of 6 (the Mega Ball must be matched, while the other numbers do not have to be in order).
Winners of the jackpot can choose to take a lump sum up front, now estimated at $113.7M, or can choose payouts over 26 years for the full amount.The current jackpot is not close to Mega Millions record prizes. In 2007, the jackpot swelled to an estimated $390 million.Each time a drawing passes without a winner, the estimated jackpot increases -- generally at a faster rate. The current jackpot began at $12M, the opening jackpot after a winner is acknowledged.
