President Barack Obama's plan to address the rising tide of foreclosures will spend $75 billion looking to help as many as 9 million Americans avoid losing their homes. The plan, being released later today, is more ambitious than initially expected and is also more costly.Stock prices have weakened in early trading. The declines for the major averages comes amid continued concern about the outlook for the troubled economy.
WASHINGTON (AP) Tough times continue for the nation's homebuilders. The Commerce Department says January housing construction sunk nearly 17 percent to a record low.CLEVELAND (AP) Goodyear Tire & Rubber plans to cut 5,000 jobs this year amid a fourth-quarter loss. The cuts amount to nearly 7 percent of the work force for the Akron, Ohio based company, which is the biggest U.S. tire maker.
